A couple of years ago, Cape Atlantis Shells launched with an identity built to survive wherever people would actually run into it — a business card, social media, the side of a delivery van.
The van turned out to be the one that mattered most. The founder told me recently that a good share of his orders trace straight back to it — people seeing the decals roll past and looking the business up. He also mentioned he’d like to wear the brand himself, not just drive it around.
So this week, the shop went live. Hoodies, hats, and a few accessories, built on the same identity from the original sketches — sitting in someone’s cart instead of on a driveway or a job site.
I don’t think founders always clock which piece of the brand is doing the real work. Sometimes it’s the thing you didn’t think to measure — a decal on a van, doing just as much lifting as the website. The founder noticed. So now, we’re trying merch.
A brand isn’t finished when the identity is approved. It has to go somewhere people actually are — a product, a website, a storefront, the side of a van somebody sees every day.
The Land & Sea Collection is live now.
